Okay... so having the Internet tell me to paint models was an utter failure.
The main reason for this failure? I simply do not know how to batch paint... for years I have done nicely detailed single models and so when trying to paint five or ten models to a basic standard I find I run out of steam and return to single figure painting.
Luckily Jeff, longstanding friend and employee of Games Workshop retail, has said if I bring a bunch of undercoated models into the shop he will teach me how to get into the batch painting mindset. Yipee! Hopefully that will give me the final bit of motivation needed to finish these funting armies.

Epic Fail
So yeah... I've managed to paint the metallics on eleven of my twenty-one Marines and the yellow on three-and-a-half.
Bit of an Epic Fail really considering that I was supposed to have got the entirely of the basic force at least basecoated by now...
But there is a reason why I have been failing to paint my Marines... and that reason is this picture:
Y'see, as much as I like Space Marines I'm an Ork at heart, and that picture of the new Kaptin Badrukk model has put me in something of an Ork frenzy... and so I have decided that this blog will now involve the evolution of two armies; the Lamenters and Gogthug's Deffskull Lootaz... and thus I will be using new labels to distinguish between posts relating to the two armies as seen below.

Colour Schemes
With the help of Bolter and Chainsword's lovely Space Marine painter program I have come up with the basic Battle Brother schemes to use in my army.
Standard Scheme - Newer Mk. VII, Mk. VIII and most composite suits
Variant Scheme #1 - Complete or near complete Mk. IV and VI suits
Variant Scheme #2 - Older Mk. VII and some composite suits
There are a couple of composite variants I have planned as well, but those are the "big three" as it were.
Colour schemes for Librarians, Techmarines, Chaplains & Apothecaries will follow.

Lack of Activity...
Combinations of LRPing, tiredness and general "can't be arsed" have made this grind to a halt for a bit... but now I've undercoated most of the stuff I have and tonight or tomorrow I shall begin painting.

The First Army List
So I have the models stuck together, undercoating may have to wait as it's currently rainy and horrible and I don't really fancy spray painting a load of miniatures indoors.
The marines are to be of the Lamenters Chapter... one which older gamers may remember from the Warhammer 40,000 Compendium. Why Lamenters? Well, because I've never, ever seen a Lamenters army... in fact I've never seen a minature painted in their colour scheme (well, apart from the couple I've done), so I thought "why the hell not?"
If anyone's interested this is the Lamenters' colour scheme:

Some elements will be varied slightly to follow current convention, but this is the basic idea.
Anyway, without further ado, here is my army list.
HQ
Captain Lear - 128
Storm bolter, power fist
Troops
Tactical Squad Sorrow - 195
Flamer, missle launcher, Sergeant with chainsword and plasma pistol
Tactical Squad Regret - 190
Flamer, missile launcher, Sergeant with combi-plasma
Total Points so Far: 568
Pictures will follow once I have found the extension lead (and thus can plug my lamp in).

First Purchases Made
Went into GW this morning... bought the Commander and the Tactical Squad. Didn't by the Rhino though as Dave (the store manager) and Iszy (my other half) talked me into getting a drop pod. Yay!
Also bought an iPod Nano.

Introduction
Hello.
My name is Doug and I have never finished a Warhammer 40,000 army.
Oh, I've had a go at making several... I get some miniatures, I stick a few together, paint even fewer and end up getting distracted by the next shiny thing GW release.
Considering I started the hobby in 1989 when I happened to pick up a copy of Rogue Trader in a friend's older brother's bedroom this is an appalling state of affairs. Which is why I've set up this blog. It is a blog that exists for no other purpose than to make me do armies.
It is loosely inspired by the Tale of Four Gamers articles which run in White Dwarf. It's not quite so rigid and there is no points system, but the principle is initially the same; make a new army from scratch and record your progress.
Luckily my decision to start this blog coincides with the release of the new Space Marine Codex which comes out tomorrow. When I buy it I shall also buy the bare bones of a new Space Marine army, to bring me up to the minimum requirement for a legal game... one HQ choice, two Troops choices. I shall use the Tactical Squad from Assault on Black Reach, and shall buy a Commander, anothe Tactical Squad and a Rhino.
There will be photographs and army lists posted here, there will be ranting when things go wrong. There will likely be digressions onto entirely unrelated subjects due to my being easily distracted. Once I have my 1,500 point Space Marine army I shall continue the blog, but concentrating on other projects. Everything from Necromunda gangs to scratchbuilt Stompas... I might, one day, even finish my Vampire Counts. One day. Maybe.
That is all for the time being. Share and enjoy
